School Board Highlights

Last evening the board met in regular session at Jefferson Elementary. In addition to its regular business, the Board of Trustees heard a report on the Jefferson School Improvement Plan from Mr. Remenih. A great number of Jefferson staff were present and the board greatly appreciated their efforts and their presence at the meeting. The board approved summer school programs for the coming year. Course offerings will include economics, government, U.S. history, biology, algebra, geometry, credit recovery language arts, jump start language arts, and jump start math at the high school. There will be a 4 week jump start program at Lincoln, migrant jr. high and high school program at Lincoln, and 1 section jump start program for students entering grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 at the elementary. Federal breakfast and lunch programs will be offered at both Lincoln and Washington. Exact dates for summer school will not be established until there is a break in the weather. The board scheduled executive sessions for staff evaluations on March 8th, March 12th, and March 15th. The next regular board meeting will be held March 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at Lincoln Junior High.

hey PEA...u guys SUCK at making decisions. thanks for RUINING my weekend plans due to the fact that i was ASSURED by an unnamed source that there would NOT BE SCHOOL MONDAY. I REALLY APPRECIATE how much you guys have SCREWED ME OVER this weekend after i have LOST MONEY for scheduling an event that will NOT NOW TAKE PLACE. im sure you could really CARE LESS what i have to see in this little comment, but I just thought id get a little bit of my frustration out with the decisions of this school corporation. it is PATHETIC. do you not think that people MAKE PLANS? do you even REALIZE that we DO live in INDIANA and it IS normal to recieve a fair ammount of snow in the winter? SO with this in mind....doesnt it MAKE SENCE to put MORE THAN 1 built in snow day to the schedule. but i guess you guys ARENT SMART ENOUGH TO FIGURE THAT ONE OUT. thank you for your COOPERATION. YOU GUYS SUCK!!!!!!

PEA IS A JOKE

WOW! It is okay to be upset, but every decision made cannot make everyone happy.

To the 8:16 comment: you need a chill pill! It's one day lady. Not a month. And it's better than going in June. Take your trip then.

We do not want PEA to be attacked for this decision. PEA along with Dr. Hill and Dan Tyree made this decision in the best interest of all children. We apogize to anyone who had to change their plans.

We understand that this is a forum to which readers can respond freely. And, since it is a forum affiliated with a school, we would appreciate it greatly if you would monitor your own language and not make us resort to censorship.

John, Dan and the PEA

Just an FYI - I guess it is true you cannot make everyone happy. All I can say is thanks for having the STUDENTS best interest in mind.

I can agree with the very first post, it is a very dim-witted decision made by the corporation to only build 1 snow day into the calendar when we live in a place that regularly recieves snow in the winter. I am sure there are people that paid money for plane tickets and there are airlines that will actually charge a fee if you are unable to make it to your plane, so you are definitely hitting a lot of people with fees that you should be prepared to pay for.

It's not John and Dan's fault for this judgment being called upon, but I think the entire group needs to think about these kinds of things before they make a decision that will affect the education AND the lives of the students since real life issues always come before education. That is fact.

Why would one purchase a plane ticket so close to the end of the school year in a community located in Northern Indiana? Think about it. Had the school scheduled five make-up days, the school year would still end when it's ending now with only one make-up day. It sounds to me like individuals are trying to play the Blame Game rather than accepting that the weather just dealt us a bad hand this year. Does anyone really want to schedule 5 or 6 make-up days and extend the school calendar into June each year?

I grew up in Ohio and school was normally out by June 1st or 2nd, and that is with 5 built in snow days. The first week in June in not too late to be getting out of school. Families like to plan, and when things are change at the last minute (in any situation) it's not good for anyone.
If your kids are involved in any High school activity they go to school pretty much year around anyway!!

One suggestion for the next board meeting....discuss the possibility of conducting drug tests on COACHES at all levels just as they do on student athletes. Especially if they are not on the teaching staff.
