Boys and Girls Club Needs Your Help

As you know the, Boys and Girls Club of Marshall County was substantially damaged by the flood several weeks ago. They lost their electrical panel, two furnaces, and a hot water heater. In addition, the clean-up expense from the flood waters has been very expensive. Fortunately, Washington School is keeping the doors open for the children and families who depend on the club, but the club needs your help.

On February 16, 2008, the Boys and Girls Club will hold a benefit to raise money. The benefit will be held at Christos Banquet Center and the theme will be Catch a Wave at the Blue Hawaiian. The silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m., and a live auction at 8:15 p.m. Finally, you can dance the evening away featuring Master of Ceremonies, Quentin Flagg, and live music by MGB. Tickets are $50.00 each and are only available until February 8, 2008.

Get your tickets or make a donation by sending a check to: Wendy Haenes, Plymouth Community School Corporation, 611 Berkley Street, Plymouth, Indiana 46563. Please make checks payable to: Boys and Girls Club of Marshall County.

I was talking to my dad about this and together we are going to be writting a check out for this. We don't know EXCATLY how much it is going to be made out for, but I know it is going to be at least 5 hundered dollers. People that is the starting amount. We have not told anybody about this yet, but I think it will be at 7 hundered dollars by this date.
I used to be a member member of the Boy's and girl's club and they have some real nice and caring people that work their. I have not been a member since I THINK 2002.
FROM A PHS STUDENT.

The major problem is not so much the ice(don't get me wrong, it is pretty slippery out), but with how cold it is, that could only make conditions even worse. Bus Riders and Drivers are both going to have one hell of a time getting to school, and I would have to say these are some of the worst conditions I have seen all year for travel (not being compared to large amounts of snowfall).

If there is no delay, then there will be a lot of people showing up frozen and late. I would go as far as to say hypothermia is going to hit, it's cold enough.

Judging by statements being made by the NOAA, we are currently in a winter advisory as we are dealing with heavy winds, blowing snow, below 0 wind temperatures that reach -20, and slippery roads. With all of this in mind, there are too many contributing factors affecting travel at this time and there is absolutely no way students could be expected to travel to school. Not only from a looking point for high school students driving to school, but for bus drivers and parents trying to drive out there.

Elkhart is closed, Goshen is closed, Lakeshore, John Glenn, and even Culver is closed. There are a lot of communities understanding exactly what it is like out there, and it's absolutely important that we think things through especially during the next few days. Conditions are going to become dangerously bad, and there could be conditions that could cause harm to the students.

Right now, Jan. 30 contains conditions that are inexcusable for students to stand at a bus stop or to be walking to school, which makes up a fair amount of the population of kids traveling to school. Most of these kids, even at this point, don't have access to someone willing to take them to school therefore they would have to walk in the harsh conditions. Things really need to calm down before they can even get to school, so we need to really think about the well being of the students.

I love what you both have been doing with the schools and I am greatly impressed with some of the overall decisions being made both in the meetings and for the good of the school corporation. Thanks for giving us a great 2007, and an already great 2008.
