Update

We have recently spoken to Plymouth Police who have informed us that the odor was from Indiana Heat Transfer on West Harrison Street.

Once again, the irritation was from a release of a bromide acid which is a lung and eye irritant but is not toxic.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has been notified and is investigating the issue.

At this time, we feel convinced that the air is clean thus allowing schools to have practices and any scheduled games tonight.

Plymouth Schools is very appreciative of the immediate response of the Plymouth Police Department on this situation and their willingness to help us make a decision for the welfare of our students.

What about the people with breathing conditions? This is the most irresponsible town I've ever seen. No big deal right? As long as those manufacturing companies can keep going-thats all thats important. And you wonder why people refer to Plymouth as the arm pit of the world.

Since you knew from the band kids at 9:00 a.m. that something was wrong. Why did elementary kids go out to recess in the morning????? You did not notify the other schools until 11:45 that the kids needed to stay in. How irresponsible!!!!!!!!!!! You had no idea what it was, and so you should have put SAFETY FIRST!!!!!

Once again, you gotta hand it to the administrators!!????

Well some teacher is grinding the ax again! If the wind was out of the west then Menominee, Washington and Webster did not need to be alerted! I don't know the recess schedule at Jefferson and Riverside but I doubt very strongly that the safety of those students was not considered! It must be hard to be so negative!

That may be your opion, but thats probably not how the band students felt. These factories need to be policed so this is not a common thing for kids and elderly and those with breathing problems. This is a SERIOUS town problem and has been ignored long enough. Maybe your just used to it.

you are way off base!!! My comments were made in reference to the whinners who always want to blame an Administrator for every thing that comes down the pike! The School system didn't cause the problem and may, by default be able to get some other state or local agency to act. It is easy to snipe at the administrators but their jobs are far more complicated than ever before as are the teachers and those who perpetuate the kind of comments about the administrators that were made above, make it even more difficult for the community to support the efforts of the entire corporation! Teachers who snipe are giving the whole team a black eye!!!!! Those who foul our air should be called out and stopped no matter how much they donate to the athletic department, band, speech team or what ever!
